Delyse Lawless is the founder of Lawless Leaders and a strategic communication advisor who helps executives, senior leaders, and subject-matter experts turn deep expertise into clear, compelling communication that moves audiences to understand, trust, and act.

Before founding Lawless Leaders, Delyse led marketing and communications for an institutional investment advisor, working closely with executives, advisors, and investment professionals on high-stakes pitches, presentations, media interviews, panels, and client conversations. Today, she advises leaders navigating complex ideas, sophisticated audiences, and moments where communication has real consequences.

With an MA in Communication and an MBA in Marketing, Delyse combines communication theory, business strategy, and real-world experience. She has taught communication and public speaking across multiple colleges and universities and served as a volunteer speech coach with Harvard Business School.

Her perspective was also built far beyond corporate conference rooms. Delyse’s first career move took her to Thailand, where she taught English and coached across cultures. Her career later took her to Washington, D.C., then Liberia, where she led humanitarian programs and was selected by Liberia’s Minister of Gender to deliver strategic communications on national television alongside government leaders and international diplomats. She later returned to Washington, D.C., continuing her work in international development.

Different countries. Different industries. Very different rooms.

And no single set of communication rules worked in all of them.

That’s the idea behind Lawless Leaders. Delyse helps leaders determine what matters, what doesn’t, how much is enough, and what their audience actually needs from them. Her work goes beyond presentation polish to what makes communication effective in the moment — knowing when to adapt, dive deeper, paraphrase, pivot, or simply pause for effect.

The goal isn’t to sound more polished. It’s to communicate with intention.

When she’s not questioning communication rules, Delyse can usually be found running, hiking, salsa dancing, spending time with her children—or enthusiastically demonstrating that confidence and karaoke ability are two entirely different skill sets.
